Similar to the western parks of Tanzania also the southern parks are least visited
Visiting Ruaha National Park and move to Nyerere National Park (former Selous Game Reserve) with a stopover in Mikumi National Park.
Ruaha NP is the largest park in Tanzania. Yes correct. It is not Serengeti.
The park can be reached by plane from Dar Es Salaam.
More than 571 species of birds have been identified in the park among large herds of Elephants and Buffalo.
On the way to Nyerere NP, you can visit Mikumi NP.
The landscape of Mikumi is often compared to that of the Serengeti. In the north-west area, at the furthest from the road, there are spectacular rock formations of the mountains Rubeho and Uluguru.
Nyerere NP ( former northern area of Selous Game Reserve) is one of the largest fauna reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania.
It was only created in 2019 and its name is not yet well known.
It is the largest national park in East Africa (twice the size of Serengeti NP) and is named after independent Tanzania’s first president, Julius Nyerere – an iconic figure in Tanzania’s history.
The wildlife is a great collection with the largest populaton of mammals and over 440 bird species. Big five can be seen and during a 3-4 day safari the chance to see them is very high.
